The short version

BC Sips doesn't ask you to create an account, doesn't track you, and doesn't sell or share your data. There are no ads. The only usage information we collect is anonymous counts of which features are used (see Usage statistics).

Your lists, collection and ratings

Your shopping lists, the bottles you Want or Have, your ratings and your tasting notes are stored on your device. If iCloud is turned on for BC Sips, Apple syncs them to your private iCloud account so they're backed up and on your other devices. We can't see them.

Your store and barcode links

If you choose a usual store, or link a barcode to a bottle, that's saved on your device and, if iCloud is on, in your private iCloud so it comes back on a new phone. We can't see it.

Location

If you allow it, your location is used on your device to sort stores by distance and show them on the map. It is never sent to us.

Camera

The camera is used only to read barcodes. Images are processed on your device and never saved or sent anywhere.

What our server sees

To download prices and check store stock, the app contacts our server (hosted by Supabase). These requests include the product you're checking, plus standard technical details like your IP address, which our hosting provider may keep in short-lived logs for security. We don't link these requests to you.

Sale & restock alerts (optional)

If you turn on alerts, we store a random ID for your device, its notification token, and the product numbers of the bottles on your lists, so we can tell you when they go on sale or come back in stock. Because alerts are part of BC Sips Plus, we also store the date your Plus (or free week) runs until; nothing about your payment or Apple ID. Turn alerts off at any time in the app or in your device's Settings.

Usage statistics

To learn which features are useful, the app sends anonymous counts to TelemetryDeck (for example “a bottle page was opened” or “the scanner was used”). They don't include your name, email, location, what you search for or which bottles you save, and aren't used for advertising or tracking.

Crash reports

If BC Sips crashes or freezes, Apple's MetricKit gives the app an anonymous technical report (which part of the app failed, the app and iOS version, and the device model). We send it to our server to fix bugs. It contains no personal information.

Feedback (optional)

If you send feedback, we receive your message, the screenshot if you include one, the app and iOS version, your device model, and a random ID for your install (to limit spam). Your email address is only included if you type it, and is used only to reply to you. Ask us any time to delete your feedback.

BC Sips Plus

Subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple. We never see your name, Apple ID or payment details; the app only asks Apple whether a subscription is active. Manage or cancel any time in your Apple ID settings.

This website

bcsips.com uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. Google may set cookies and receive your IP address and browser details for this. The app itself does not use Google Analytics. You can block it with your browser's privacy settings or a content blocker.

Children

BC Sips is for adults of legal drinking age (19+ in BC).

Changes and contact

If this policy changes we'll update this page and the date above. Questions or deletion requests: support@bcsips.com, or use Send feedback in the app's About screen.
